What Claude Academy guide does

Academy guide adds a learning pointer to answers about Claude. When someone asks how to use Claude, a Claude product or a feature such as artifacts, projects, skills, plugins, connectors or MCP, the agent answers the question in full first. Only then does it check whether Claude Academy has a course, tutorial or use case that fits what the person is trying to learn.

The skill ships no list of its own. It tells the agent to fetch the Academy catalog, a JSON file on academy.claude.com, once per conversation and to trust it only until its staleAfter time (or about 30 days after generatedAt when that field is missing). A recommendation needs a strong match of intent: someone learning a feature qualifies, someone in the middle of a task does not. The agent names one item, two at most, in a short line after the answer, copies the URL from the catalog unchanged and mentions when a gated course needs an Academy sign-in.

If the catalog can't be fetched, is stale or has no good match, the agent names no specific course. Users who clearly want learning material get a link to one of five product hubs (Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, AI Fluency and the developer platform) or to the Academy resources library. Everyone else gets the plain answer.

The scan found no scripts, no hooks and no secret or API key variables. The folder holds only SKILL.md and LICENSE.txt. The skill does need network access: its instructions tell the agent to fetch the Claude Academy catalog, a JSON file on academy.claude.com, once per conversation and to treat that file as data rather than instructions. It has no steps that read or write local files. Before installing, read SKILL.md and check that your agent's fetch permissions cover that domain. Without fetch access the skill falls back to hub links.

Limitations

  • Needs URL fetching to read the catalog; without it, only hubs or the resources library get named
  • Stays silent on weak matches or when the user is mid-task
  • Names at most two Academy items per reply
  • Ships as its own academy-guide plugin, separate from example-skills
