Frontend design

Guides an agent toward distinctive, deliberate visual design when building or reworking a UI, covering aesthetic direction, typography and choices that avoid templated defaults.

Agent skillAgent skills

What Frontend design does

The skill casts the agent as a studio design lead whose client wants a clear point of view. It starts by pinning down the subject. If the brief does not say what the product is, the agent proposes a subject, an audience and the design's main job, then checks them with the user. Visual choices are drawn from that subject's industry, materials and vocabulary.

Work happens in two passes. The agent first drafts a compact plan: four to six named hex colors, typefaces and their roles, a layout idea sketched in prose and ASCII wireframes, and a few guiding principles. It reviews the plan against the brief, revises any part that reads like a generic default, explains each change and only then writes code. The SKILL.md lists five looks it calls common in AI-generated pages, among them a cream background with a terracotta accent and identical rounded SaaS cards. The agent avoids them unless the brief asks for one.

Further guidance covers the type scale, line lengths under 80 characters, sparing motion, CSS specificity clashes and a quality floor of responsive layouts, visible keyboard focus and reduced-motion support. The agent critiques its own output, with screenshots where its environment allows. A closing section asks for plain, active, user-facing interface copy.

Install

/plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

Read the security check below before you run it. The repository's own instructions win if they differ.

Security check

What the skill's files do, from reading them. A flag that nobody has checked yet says "Not checked", never "No".

Runs scripts
No
Uses the network
No
Installs hooks
No
Asks for secrets
No

The scan found no scripts, hook definitions, network calls or secret variables. The folder holds SKILL.md and LICENSE.txt. The skill shapes how your agent writes frontend code, so the files it changes are your project's own markup, styles and components, edited through the agent's normal tools. It also suggests taking screenshots for review where the environment supports that. Before installing, read the SKILL.md, and look over the agent's design plan before it starts editing code.

Scan details: No scripts, hook definitions, network calls or secret variables were found in the skill folder. Checked at commit 8a1541c4a3ff.

Use cases

  • Build a landing page or app screen with a specific visual identity.
  • Rework an existing UI that looks generic or template-made.
  • Plan palette, type and layout before writing frontend code.
  • Write clearer button labels, error messages and empty states.

Limitations

  • Design guidance only: it ships no components, templates or scripts.
  • When the brief sets a visual direction, the brief overrides the skill's defaults.
  • Screenshot self-review depends on the agent's environment supporting screenshots.
