What Clair does

Clair sends Claude Code's interruptions to your Android phone and Wear OS watch. When a session stops for a permission prompt, a multiple-choice question or a plan review, the prompt appears on your devices with the detail needed to decide, and your answer goes back to the session so it can continue. The prompt still shows in the terminal too, and whichever answer arrives first is the one used.

Setup has three parts: the Clair app on the phone (and optionally the watch), a small background agent on the computer running Claude Code, and a pairing step. You install the agent with a shell script on macOS or Linux, or a PowerShell script on Windows, run clair pair, scan the code with the phone and restart Claude Code. The agent connects through Claude Code's hooks and never asks for your Claude login.

From the watch you can allow a command once or for the session, deny it with a typed or dictated reason, pick answers, or approve a plan in one of the terminal's modes. A tile, a watch-face complication and, on Wear OS 6 or later, Clair's own watch face show waiting sessions and token usage. Watches with Wi-Fi or LTE keep getting prompts when the phone is out of Bluetooth range, as long as the phone stays on and online.

Clair is an independent app by Jeff Mixon and is not made by Anthropic. Prompts are encrypted on the computer and opened only on the phone, with a relay passing the sealed messages between them.

  • Approving or denying Claude Code commands while away from the desk
  • Answering Claude Code's multiple-choice questions from a watch or phone
  • Reading and approving a Claude Code plan on the wrist, or sending it back with notes
  • Keeping an eye on waiting sessions and token usage from a watch face

Who should use it

  • Claude Code users with an Android phone who leave long sessions running
  • Wear OS watch owners who want to approve agent actions from the wrist

Who should look elsewhere

  • iPhone or Apple Watch users: the site lists only Android and Wear OS apps
  • People using coding agents other than Claude Code

Strengths

  • Prompts are end-to-end encrypted, and the relay only handles sealed messages
  • Works without a watch, since the phone app can answer prompts on its own
  • Answers can come from the watch, the phone or the terminal, and the first one counts
  • A demo mode runs without a computer, pairing or subscription

Limitations

  • Answering from the phone or watch requires a paid Google Play subscription whose price the site does not state
  • Requires Android 12 or later, and Wear OS 4 or later for the watch
  • Watch-only use over Wi-Fi or LTE still needs the phone to stay on and online
  • The relay sees metadata: when a pairing is active, message sizes, IP addresses and the phone's push token

Privacy notes

Messages between the computer and the phone are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305, and the relay holds sealed messages for no more than 24 hours. The relay still sees pairing ids, timing, message sizes, IP addresses and the phone's push token, and Google Firebase handles crash reports and analytics.
