What it does
ECC is an open-source system that adds reusable engineering workflows, skills, agents, memory, rules, hooks and security checks to coding agents. Its main path is Claude Code, with guided installation also available for Codex and Kimi Code. The repository also contains adapters for other coding agents, but the project warns that support is not equal across them.
The current repository includes 68 agents, 293 skills and 94 legacy command shims. The supplied workflows cover tasks such as planning, testing, implementation, review, build repair, security and architecture. ECC also includes AgentShield integration for scanning agent configuration, prompts, hooks, MCP settings, permissions, secrets and related files. Hooks and memory can enforce checks outside the prompt, store session information and support its continuous-learning system.
The easiest starting point is the ecc-universal guided installer. Claude Code setup needs Node.js 18 or newer, Git and Claude Code 2.1 or newer on PATH. The multi-agent installer can configure Claude Code, Codex and Kimi Code in one reviewed flow. Kimi installation is more limited: ECC writes managed project files but does not configure Kimi hooks, model or provider settings, or authentication.
Why it matters
Coding agents often need the same planning, testing, review, memory and security instructions repeated across sessions. ECC packages those behaviors into installable skills, agents, rules and hooks instead of leaving the whole process in prompts. It also targets several coding-agent platforms from one repository, although Claude Code has the strongest support and other adapters can expose fewer capabilities.
Main features
- Includes 68 specialized agents and 293 skills.
- Provides planning, testing, review, build repair, security and architecture workflows.
- Includes hooks, rules, memory and continuous-learning workflows.
- AgentShield scans agent files, hooks, MCP configuration, permissions and secrets.
- Guided installer supports Claude Code, Codex and Kimi Code.
- Supports dry runs for reviewed Codex and Kimi installation paths.
- Can use self-hosted models through the coding agent's configured endpoint.
Who it's for
- Developers using Claude Code who want reusable engineering workflows and agent configuration.
- Teams using Codex or Kimi Code that want a guided ECC installation path.
- Developers who want packaged skills, agents, rules, hooks and memory for coding agents.
- Users who want security checks for agent configuration, MCP settings, hooks and secrets.
Strengths
- Large included collection of agents and skills for software-development tasks.
- Guided installation can configure Claude Code, Codex and Kimi Code.
- Security tooling covers prompts, hooks, MCP configuration, permissions and secrets.
- Dry-run paths are available before Codex or Kimi installation writes files.
Limitations
- The repository says Claude Code has the strongest support; other coding agents do not have feature parity.
- The Kimi managed-project installer does not configure hooks, model settings, provider settings or authentication.
- Several other adapters still use separate documented install paths instead of the guided installer.
- AgentShield requires a separately installed and reviewed `ecc-agentshield` binary.
Getting started
For Claude Code, the repository recommends its guided setup command. Node.js 18 or newer is required, with Git and Claude Code 2.1 or newer for the Claude plugin path.
