Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Model Context Protocol servers and clients that connect models to tools and data, with guides for building, testing and securing them.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open protocol that lets AI applications connect to external tools and data through MCP servers, using one standard interface. To start with MCP, read the guide on connecting MCP servers to Claude Code and keeping them safe, then the guide to building your own MCP server in Python with the official SDK.

The tool pages include coding agents that can act as MCP clients, such as Claude Code and Cursor, and products that offer their own MCP access. Among them are a desktop video editor that agents drive over MCP and a test runbook where agents record results. The open-source projects include codebase-memory-mcp, which gives a coding agent a code knowledge graph through MCP tools, and memory layers for AI assistants.

For writing servers with an agent's help, the MCP server builder skill covers Python with FastMCP and TypeScript with the MCP SDK. Before you connect any server, check which data and actions it exposes, as the connection guide advises vetting each server first.
